GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire women's tennis team was defeated by No. 24 NYIT Saturday evening by a score of 9-0. With the loss, the Penmen are now 8-5 overall, while the Bears improve to 16-2.
The loss marks the first regular season loss at home for the Penmen since the 2008-09 season, and the first loss in 26 regular season home matches.
In singles play, the Penmen would have their best opportunity for a point when Amanda Albuquerque (Weymouth, Mass.) lost to Madalina Florea at the No. 3 spot by a score of 7-6 (10-5) and 6-3. Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) and Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) would fall in the first and second singles matches by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-2 respectively.
The Bears were too much for the Penmen in doubles play as they would sweep all three sets. Albuquerque and Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.) would give Sara Burinato and Rocio Benavent the greatest challenge for the Penmen as they lost 8-3 in No. 2 doubles action. The duo of Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) would fall to Valeria Savina and Gabriela Rodriguez in third doubles play by a score of 8-2, and Mukdaprakorn and Vamvakitis were blanked by Nelly Ciolkowski and Florea, 8-0.
The Penmen return to action tomorrow when they host No. 44 Concordia for a 4:00 p.m. match at the Allard Center in Goffstown, New Hampshire.
