Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

QUEENS, N.Y. – No. 12 Southern New Hampshire University completed a four-game weekend baseball sweep of Queens (N.Y.) College with wins by scores of 5-1 and 3-1 at Ray Metski Field Sunday afternoon.  The Penmen have won six in a row and improved to 14-3, while the Knights are 1-0 on the season.

In the opener, the Penmen scored twice in the second, grabbed a run in the fourth and plated two insurance runs in the ninth.  In the second, Greg Pezzuto (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.), who had reached via error, scored on a sac fly by Bryan Toland (Wildwood, N.J.).  Riley Palmer (Goffstown, N.H.), who singled after Pezzuto reached, eventually scored on a wild pitch after he stole third.  In the fourth, Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass.) led off with a single and eventually stole home on a double steal with Jon Minucci (Madison, Conn.).

In the ninth, Andy Lalli (Lakeville, Mass.) worked a two-out walk and was lifted for pinch runner Evan Noonan (Weddington, N.C.).  Noonan scored on a triple by Anthony Aceto (North Providence, R.I.), while Aceto came home on a single by Brendan O'Brien (East Bridgewater, Mass.).

The Penmen had five hits in the opener.  Graduate student Andrew Pezzuto (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) went 0-4 and saw a 14-game hit streak snapped.  Derrick Sylvester (Franklin, N.H.) started and earned the win on the hill for SNHU, allowing five hits and one run while striking out four.  Alex Powers (Brewster, Mass.) worked the final three innings and allowed one hit while fanning two to pick up the save.

In the nightcap, the Penmen staked themselves to a 2-0 lead in the fourth.  Southern New Hampshire had two in scoring position with one out after back-to-back singles by Boulter and Minucci.  Greg Pezzuto singled up the middle to bring both runners home.  SNHU's other run came in the sixth of the seven-inning contest when a Boulter sac fly plated O'Brien.  O'Brien led of the frame with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error on the steal.

Queens threatened in the bottom of the seventh, scoring one run and bringing the winning run to the plate with one out and runners on first and third, however, Jon Massad (Shrewsbury, Mass.) induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

Greg Pezzuto had a pair of hits in the nightcap.  Massad went the distance on the mound and scattered six hits while striking out four.  O'Brien's single extended his hit streak to 11 games.

Southern New Hampshire is scheduled to open its home and Northeast-10 schedules on Thursday afternoon when it hosts Saint Anselm College in a 3:00 game at Penmen Field.
