Box Score

EASTON, Mass. – Chris Hoyt's single in the bottom of the seventh snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted Stonehill College to a 3-2 Northeast-10 baseball win over ninth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University at Lou Gorman Field Thursday afternoon.  The Skyhawks upped their record to 14-8 and 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Northeast Division, while the Penmen are 16-5 and 0-1 in divisional play.

Stonehill plated the winning run with two away in the seventh.  Chris Callahan reached on a two-out double and scored on Hoyt's single.  Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, the Skyhawks tied the game with a pair of runs as Michael Zeiner lifted a sac fly to bring in James DeAlto, and an Anthony Pagano single plated Billy Karalis.

Southern New Hampshire staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the second.  After Riley Palmer (Goffstown, N.H.) singled with one away, Bryan Toland (Wildwood, N.J.) worked a walk, followed by Andy Lalli (Lakeville, Mass.) getting hit by a pitch.  All three runners advanced with Palmer scoring on a wild pitch.

Palmer scored on another wild pitch in the fourth after he led off the frame with a single, stole second and moved to third on a Toland groundout.

The Penmen got the tying run into scoring position in the top of the ninth as pinch hitter Michael Mastroberti (Ramsey, N.J.) worked a walk and moved to second on a sac bunt by Evan Noonan (Weddington, N.C.).  Mastroberti moved to third on a groundout, but Stonehill closer Mike Krupczak got Brendan O'Brien (East Bridgewater, Mass.) to strike out to end the game.

Palmer led Southern New Hampshire with two hits, while DeAlto and Dan Fratus each had two hits for Stonehill.  Steve Pike earned the win in relief for Stonehill, striking out three in his two innings of work.  Krupczak worked the ninth to pick up his first save of the season.

Junior Mendez (Patchogue, N.Y.) suffered his first loss of the season on the mound for SNHU, going seven innings and allowing seven hits and three runs while fanning eight.  John Pickowicz (Hill, N.H.) allowed a hit and struck out a batter working the eighth in relief for the Penmen.

SNHU travels to Stonehill for a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
