No. 11 Baseball Slugs Past Nova Southeastern 14-12

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.Jon Minucci (Madison, Conn.) knocked in eight runs as No. 11 Southern New Hampshire University slugged its way past Nova Southeastern 14-10 in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night at the NSU Baseball Complex.  The Penmen upped their unblemished record to 8-0 on the season, while the Sharks are now 9-7 on the season.

Minucci finished a triple short of the cycle, going 4-4 at the plate with two walks.  He belted a three-run home run in the first inning, delivered a three-run double down the left field line in the second and  recorded a two-run single up the middle in the fourth.

Riley Palmer (Goffstown, N.H.) belted a sixth inning grand slam, while Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass.) knocked in a pair of runs on the evening.

The Penmen scored four times in the first and three times in the second to build a 7-0 lead.  Following Palmer's sixth inning grand slam, Southern New Hampshire held a 14-4 lead.  The Sharks scored eight times over the final three innings, and brought the winning run to the plate with one away in the bottom of the ninth, but following a bases-loaded walk, David Gibson (Hanover, Mass.) got out of the jam by giving up a sac fly and recording a strikeout to end the game.

Alex Powers (Brewster, Mass.) started and worked the first 4.1 innings for Southern New Hampshire, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out six, but also issuing seven walks.  Curtis Hamilton (Lowell, Mass.) allowed four hits and two unearned runs in 2.2 innings of work.  After Jake Woodward (Lebanon, N.H.) and Mike Speranzella (Southborough, Mass.) worked brief stints in the eighth, Gibson went the final 1.2 innings, allowing one hit but walking four while striking out two.

Brandon Sedell and Angel Navarro had two hits apiece to lead Nova, with Sedell driving in three runs.  Mike Gonzalez took the loss for the Sharks, allowing seven runs (five earned) in his 1.1 innings of work.

Southern New Hampshire faces its second straight Sunshine State opponent Wednesday afternoon when it travels to Lynn University for a 2:30 contest.
