Box Score BETHPAGE, N.Y. – The Southern New Hampshire men's lacrosse team was defeated by an undefeated Mercy College squad Tuesday evening by a score of 10-8. The Penmen fall to 0-2, while the Mavericks improve to 4-0.
Jeremy Buckley (Norwell, Mass.) notched four goals on the evening for the Penmen, but three late fourth quarter Mercy goals would be the difference in the game.
Southern New Hampshire would jump out to an early lead when Corey Allen (Suffield, Conn.) scored just 27 seconds into the game to give SNHU a 1-0 lead. However, Mercy would quickly take the lead when Mike Marzocca scored back-to-back goals for the Mavericks. The teams would trade two more goals each, including two from Buckley, to end the quarter with the Penmen trailing by one goal.
Mercy would strike first in the second quarter when Frank Henenlotter scored to make the lead two goals, but the Penmen would regain the lead after three consecutive goals to give the team a 6-5 edge over Mercy heading into halftime.
Mercy would dominate the third quarter while shooting seven shots to Southern New Hampshire's two, and scoring two unanswered goals to go up 7-6 on SNHU.
However, the Penmen would score the first two goals of the fourth quarter to take an 8-7 lead with 12:20 left to play in regulation. Cameron Joyce (Braintree, Mass.) would score his second goal of the game from Ryan Woodford (Scituate, Mass.), while Buckley scored his fourth of the game just 1:20 later. SNHU would hold the fourth quarter lead for about four minutes until Mercy scored three consecutive unanswered goals.
Crosby Nicholson (Andover, Mass.) got his second start in goal for the Penmen while making nine saves on 19 shots, while Mike Cashman recorded eight saves on 16 Penmen shots.
The Penmen return to action Thursday, March 7 when they travel to Dowling for a non-conference game at 4:00 p.m.
