Grand Valley State Pulls Away from Women's Lacrosse 15-10

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Visiting Grand Valley State University outscored Southern New Hampshire University 9-4 in the second half as it posted a 15-10 women's lacrosse victory at Larkin Field Wednesday afternoon.  The Lakers improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Penmen are 0-2.

Allyson Fritts led Grand Valley State with four goals, while Rachel Leibovitz finished with three goals.  Sarah Lowe added two goals and an assist, while Taylor Bierwagen, Ali Dixon and Victoria Devine each notched a goal and an assist.

Southern New Hampshire was led by junior Ellie Morin (Scarborough, Maine), who scored four goals, in the process becoming the 12th player in program history with 100 career points.  Lindsay Bucknam (Bow, N.H.) finished with three goals while Phoebe Clark (Concord, N.H.) scored twice.  Adrianna Frattasio (Walpole, Mass.) had the other Penmen tally.

Grand Valley State broke a 6-6 halftime tie by scoring the first three goals of the second half, with a Fritts tally at the 24:11 mark giving the guests a 9-6 lead.  The two teams traded the next three goals, with a Clark tally pulling the Penmen within two, 10-8, with 15:09 to play.  The Lakers put the game away by running off five unanswered goals, taking a 15-8 lead with 4:44 left on a Leibovitz goal.

Clark gave the Penmen a 1-0 lead just 28 seconds into the game before GVSU scored six of the next eight goals to open up a 6-3 lead 3:31 before intermission on a Leibovitz free position shot.  Southern New Hampshire scored three times in the final 3:18, including back-to-back free position goals by Morin, the second coming 15 seconds before the break, to deadlock the game 6-6 at halftime.

Audrey Kobe notched 13 saves in goal to pick up the victory for Grand Valley State, while Penmen goalie Maria Ploof (Middlebury, Vt.) made seven saves.  The Penmen outshot the Lakers 35-29 and controlled 15 of 27 draws on the afternoon.

Southern New Hampshire is back in action at home Saturday when it hosts defending Division II national champion and top-ranked LIU Post for a 1:00 contest at Larkin Field.
