Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Natalie Lieberman finished with five goals and a pair of assists as No. 14 University of New Haven notched a 22-11 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory over Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field. The Chargers upped their record to 9-6 and 7-3 in the NE-10, while the Penmen now stand 5-10 and 4-6 in league play.
Lieberman also recorded five draw controls for the victors. Nicole McKee also posted five goals, while Kristina Curry added four goals and an assist and Kathryn Campbell three goals and three assists.
Lindsay Bucknam (Bow, N.H.) had three goals and an assist for Southern New Hampshire, which also got three goals from Emily King (Florence, Mass.). Ellie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) scored twice, while Jenna Crupi (Albany, N.Y.) totaled a goal and an assist. Alexa Allen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Phoebe Clark (Concord, N.H.) each added single tallies for the Penmen.
New Haven never trailed and opened up a 10-5 lead with 12:19 remaining in the first half following a Curry goal. Back-to-back goals by Morin 53 seconds apart pulled the Penmen within three, 10-7 with 8:53 remaining, but the Chargers scored the final four goals of the half to take a 14-7 lead into intermission.
Southern New Hampshire scored three of the first four goals of the second half to pull within five, 15-10, with 25:21 remaining on a King goal, but New Haven salted the game away by scoring six of the final seven goals of the contest.
Marissa McDermott started in goal for New Haven and worked the first half, making three saves. Alyssa Gianotti went 26:26 and made eight saves before she was spelled by Sharon Strain for the final 3:34. Maria Ploof (Middlebury, Vt.) went the first 30 minutes in goal for the Penmen and made four saves, while Alex Tepper (Flanders, N.J.) made three stops in the second half. The Chargers outshot Southern New Hampshire 36-25.
Southern New Hampshire is on the road for its final two games, starting with a Tuesday afternoon tilt at Franklin Pierce. That game is slated for a 4:00 start.
