Women's Lacrosse Wraps Up 2013 With 20-11 Win at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.Ellie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) totaled five goals and three assists to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 20-11 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory at American International College Saturday afternoon.  The Penmen wrap up the 2013 season 7-10 overall and 6-6 in Northeast-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets conclude at 1-15 and 0-12 in the league.

With her eight points Saturday, Morin wraps up the season with 48 goals and 18 assists for 66 points.  Her 48 goals are tied for the fourth most by a Penmen player in a single season, while Morin's 66 points are tied for the sixth-most in a season.

Ambra Maymon (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished with three goals and a pair of assists for Southern New Hampshire, while Emily King (Florence, Mass.) and Alexa Allen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) each netted three goals.    Phoebe Clark (Concord, N.H.) and Lindsay Bucknam (Bow, N.H.) each scored twice, with Clark adding an assist, while Jenna Crupi (Albany, N.Y.) and Lauryn Wheeler (Bow, N.H.) each notching single tallies.

Meg Solitario led American International with four goals while  Jacqueline Millard scored three times.

Southern New Hampshire clung to a 7-6 lead at halftime and saw the Yellow Jackets tie the game twice in the first five-plus minutes of the second half.  Millard knotted the game 7-7 on a free position shot at the 28:28 mark, but Morin reclaimed the lead by converting a free position of her own at 26:27.  With 24:48 remaining, Whitney McKay tied the game for AIC, with Erica McLean notching an assist.

The guests proceeded to reel off six straight goals in a span of 5:53 to build a 14-8 lead with 16:14 to play on a Clark goal.  The Yellow Jackets scored the next three goals to pull within three, 14-11, with 13:16 left on a Millard free position, but the Penmen scored the final six goals of the contest to secure the victory.

SNHU never trailed, opening up a 5-2 lead with 16:45 left on a Maymon free position goal.  AIC scored the next three goals to tie the game with just under nine minutes left before halftime.  Morin scored at 5:16 before Solitario scored at the 4:11 mark to knot the game again.  Morin scored 1:28 before intermission to give the Penmen a 7-6 lead at the break.

Maria Ploof (Middlebury, Vt.) made nine saves in goal for Southern New Hampshire, while AIC counterpart Lissy Doherty notched 11 saves.  The Penmen outshot the Yellow Jackets 21-12 in the second half and 38-25 for the contest.
