WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University women's cross country team recorded a seventh-place finish at the 19th Annual James Earley Invite at Westfield State University. The race was comprised of 424 student-athletes from 44 institutions.
Sophomore Laura O'Hanlon (Dedham, Mass.) was the top Penmen finisher on Saturday, as she completed the race in 18:38 to finish No. 8 overall. O'Hanlon's time is the third-fastest 5K time in the history of the Southern New Hampshire University women's cross country program. She previously recorded the second-fastest time at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 20.
Junior Stacey Wojcik (Wrentham, Mass.) tied the mark for the fifth-fastest 5K time school history with a time of 18:51. Wojcik now owns four of the top-20 fastest five-kilometer times in Penmen history (fourth, fifth, 11th and 18th). Classmate Abigail MacBeth (Cumberland, R.I.) also etched her name into the SNHU record book on Saturday, as she traversed the terrain in 19:12, which is the 12th-best 5K time.
Freshman Kaitlin McCauley (Waltham, Mass) recorded a time of 20:50 and senior Melissa Stacom (Massapequa, N.Y.) completed the Penmen top-five after finishing in 21:03. Freshman Alicia Cutter (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was next across the finish line for SNHU in 21:35 and junior Erin Carter (Shelburne, Vt.) checked in with a time of 22:05.
Southern New Hampshire will be in action next on Sunday Oct. 26 when it travels to Boston for the Mayor's Cup at Franklin Park.
