MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University edged Stonehill College 5-4 in Northeast-10 women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the SNHU Courts. With the win, the Penmen locked up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NE-10 Championship as they now stand 11-1 overall and in the league with their 10th straight victory. The Skyhawks, who settle into the No. 3 seed, are now 8-2 overall and in league play.
SNHU's 10-game win streak is its longest since winning 13 in a row in the 2010-11 season.
The Penmen jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles and secured the victory with wins at the top three singles flights. Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) and Ashley Loft (Leysin, Switzerland) were 8-5 winners at No. 1 doubles, while Sarah Schöllgen (Meerbusch, Germany) and Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) won by a similar score at No. 2.
Vamvakitis was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles, while Loft completed a 10-0 NE-10 slate with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2. Schöllgen recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win at third singles.
With the second seed in the Northeast-10 Championship, the Penmen earn a first-round bye and will be back in action when they host a semifinal match on Friday, October 24.
