Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Southern New Hampshire University dropped a pair of games at the Northeast Challenge held at the Ripken Experience on Friday, falling to Felician College 6-4 before being blanked by Pfeiffer University 9-0 in the nightcap. The Penmen are now 1-2 on the season.
In the opener, freshman Manny Cruz (Wolcott, Conn.) and senior Anthony Aceto (North Providence, R.I.) each finished 2-4 with an RBI at the plate, while Aceto also had a run scored.
Felician jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, before the Penmen got on the board with a run in the top of the third, as a two-out single by Cruz scored Aceto. The Golden Falcons scored twice in the bottom of the frame to take as 5-1 lead.
SNHU plated three runs in the top of the fourth to make it 5-4. Al Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) led off the inning with a double and eventually scored on a sac fly by Michael Mastroberti (Ramsey, N.J.). Bryan Toland (Wildwood, N.J.) scored on a single by Aceto, while Joseph Zanghi (Milford, Conn.) scored when Brendan O'Brien (East Bridgewater, Mass.) reached on an error. Felician added another run in the bottom of the fifth.
Cole Warren (Bedford, N.H.) took the loss on the mound for SNHU, allowing nine hits and six runs in seven innings of work while striking out four.
In the nightcap, Pfeiffer staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third before scoring four runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings.
O'Brien and Stanton each had two hits for Southern New Hampshire. Senior Derrick Sylvester (Franklin, N.H.) took the loss, allowing seven hits while striking out two in 5.2 innings. Sam Fuller (Barre, Vt.) struck out five in 3.1 innings of relief, allowing just three hits.
Southern New Hampshire faces Dowling College in an 11:00 game Saturday.
