MANCHESTER, N.H. –
13 first-half goals were the difference as the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team defeated Southern Connecticut State University by a score of 17-7 in a Northeast-10 Conference game Saturday afternoon on Larkin Field. The win, which is the second in a row for the Penmen, ups their record to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the league, while the Owls fall to 0-3, and 0-2 in conference play.

Eight different players recorded a point for SNHU in the win. Lindsay Bucknam (Bow, N.H.) led all scorers with three goals and four assists, while Ellie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) had four goals, and Phoebe Clark (Concord, N.H.) recorded three goals and two assists. Casey Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) added three scores and an assist, and Emily King (Florence, Mass.) and Ellen Decker (Foxborough, Mass.) each added two goals apiece.

The Penmen jumped out to an early lead when Bucknam scored the first goal of the game on a free position shot just 1:20 into the first half to go up 1-0. SNHU then scored the next six goals to take a 7-0 lead. Sarah Muise put the Owls on the board when she answered at the 16:24 mark with her first goal of the game to cut the lead to six, but the hosts went on another run and scored six more goals to end the half with a 13-1 lead.

Southern Connecticut came out of halftime scoring the next four out of five goals to cut the lead once again to nine, but Clark and Decker answered with back-to-back tallies to retake the double-digit lead at 16-5 with 6:40 left to play in the second half. The teams traded goals in the final five minutes when Muise scored her third tally of the game, and Decker recorded her second, and the Owls closed out the game with one final score from Sarah Cebry.

The Penmen return to action next Saturday when they travel to Assumption for a 3:00 p.m. league game.
