Box Score RINDGE, N.H. – Junior Cole Warren (Bedford, N.H.) struck out 12 and allowed just one hit in five shutout innings to lead No. 14 Southern New Hampshire University to an 8-2 non-conference baseball victory over Saint Anselm College in a game played at Pappas Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce University Tuesday night. The Penmen upped their record to 15-5, while the Hawks are now 6-11 overall.
Warren carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning until Ken Morrisino reached on a one-out single. He struck out 12 and walked three without allowing a run and struck out the side in the second and fourth innings. On the night, Penmen pitchers struck out 18 Hawk batters, with John Pickowicz (Hill, N.H.) recording four strikeouts in two innings of relief, while Zach Zona (Auburn, Mass.) had two strikeouts in an inning. Ian Searles (Wareham, Mass.) pitched a scoreless ninth of relief.
Brendan O'Brien (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Manny Cruz (Wolcott, Conn.) and Anthony Aceto (North Providence, R.I.) each had two hits on the night, with Al Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) driving in a pair of runs. Riley Palmer (Goffstown, N.H.) singled in the bottom of the fifth to extend his hit streak to eight games.
SNHU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, then tacked on three runs in the bottom of the second to make it 4-0. Three more runs in the fifth made it a 7-0 game.
In the first, O'Brien led off with a single and eventually scored on a double by Mike Mastroberti (Ramsey, N.J.). Tyler Fortanascio (Oradell, N.J.) led off the second with a single, then scored on a double by Aceto. Aceto scored on a successful squeeze by Jeremy Tejada (Bronx, N.Y.). O'Brien followed up with a walk and scored on a Stanton single.
In the fifth, SNHU scored three times on just one hit, taking advantage of a Saint Anselm error as well as two passed balls. The final Penmen run came in the eighth when Aceto led off with a single and scored on a Stanton sac fly.
Saint Anselm notched single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Thursday night when it takes on Saint Michael's College in a 7:00 Northeast-10 contest at Pappas Field in Rindge.
