Box Score RINDGE, N.H. – Franklin Pierce University's Conor Gleason struck out 13 as the Ravens topped No. 20 Southern New Hampshire University 4-1 in Northeast-10 baseball action Tuesday night at Pappas Field. The Ravens, who have won eight in a row, improve to 33-14 and 18-6 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 32-12 and 19-7 in the league.
The result, combined with Stonehill's win over Bentley earlier Tuesday, leaves those four teams separated by just one game in the loss column at the top of the NE-10 Northeast Division standings. Franklin Pierce is 13-5, SNHU 14-6, Bentley 11-5 and Stonehill 11-6 in divisional play.
Gleason went eight innings, striking out 13 and allowing just one hit in eight innings, a single by Alejandro Diaz (Old Bridge, N.J.) to lead off the fifth. He did walk six batters. Doug Willey allowed one hit, a single to Al Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) to lead off, but struck out a pair in the ninth for his 13th save of the season.
Franklin Pierce scored twice in the first and once in the third to build a 3-0 lead before the Penmen got on the board in the fifth. After Diaz scored, two of the next three Penmen batters walked, and Diaz came home on a wild pitch. The Ravens added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh.
John Razzino and Calvin Graves each had two hits for Franklin Pierce, with Razzino knocking in a pair of runs.
Derrick Sylvester (Franklin, N.H.) took just his second loss of the season, allowing seven hits and four runs in eight innings while striking out six.
