Men's Soccer Picked to Repeat as NE-10 Regular Season Champions

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team garnered 12 of 14 first place votes and was picked to finish first as the Northeast-10 Conference released its preseason coaches' poll Wednesday morning. Merrimack College was picked second, while Adelphi University earned the other two first-place votes and was selected third. Southern Connecticut State University and Franklin Pierce University rounded out the top five.

In 2013, SNHU became the first team in Northeast-10 men's soccer to finish a season 13-0-0 since the league expanded to 14 in men's soccer prior to the 2000 season as it captured the regular season title. The Penmen would go on to capture their second straight NE-10 tournament title, and finished 22-1-1, earning the program's second NCAA Division II national championship.

Southern New Hampshire returns 20 players from last season's national championship squad, including seven Northeast-10 All-Conference selections. The Penmen open the 2014 season at home on Thursday, September 4, when they take on Bloomfield College in a 7:00 contest at Larkin Field.

The eight-team Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Championship kicks off on Tuesday, November 4 with quarterfinal action, with the semifinals slated for Friday, November 7 and the final set for Sunday, November 9. High seeds will host throughout the championship. SNHU will be looking to be the first school to win three straight Northeast-10 tournament titles since Merrimack did so from 1995-97.
