MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team blanked Saint Anselm College 9-0 in Northeast-10 women's tennis Thursday afternoon at the Saint Anselm tennis courts. The Penmen won their second straight to up their record to 3-1 overall and in the NE-10, while the Hawks are now 3-4 overall and in the league.
The win gives Southern New Hampshire two points in the Queen City Cup, the competition between the two Manchester rivals in a total of 16 sports. SNHU now leads Saint Anselm 8-0 in the yearlong contest.
Senior Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) moved into sole possession of third place on SNHU's career singles and doubles lists Thursday. She teamed with Ashley Loft (Leysin, Switzerland) to post an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, her 65th career doubles triumph. In singles play, Vamvakitis earned her 64th career with in a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3 (10-7) win at No. 1 singles.
Classmate Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) moved into the No. 5 spot in career doubles wins on Thursday, teaming with Lindsay Baum (North Salem, N.Y.) for an 8-2 win at No. 2. It marked Hann's 55th career doubles victory.
Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.) and Allison Valentine (New Hartford, Conn.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3. Valentine was also a three-set winner in singles play, recording a 6-2, 5-7 (10-7) victory at No. 6.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action this weekend at the ITA East Regional hosted by Queens (N.Y.) College.
