Third-ranked Southern New Hampshire University improved to 12-0 with a 3-2, come from behind men's soccer victory at Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers opened the scoring 9:22 into the contest when Federico De Oliveira dribbled through the defense and tucked a shot into the left side of the goal. Senior Sebastian Stezewski (New Britain, Conn.) answered less than eight minutes later for the Penmen, as he buried his team-leading sixth goal of the season to make it 1-1 with 28:09 remaining in the first.
After a Caelan Hueber header pushed the hosts back in front by a goal in the 23rd minute, Southern New Hampshire scored twice in a span of 4:03 to a take 3-2 advantage. Junior Gilbert Manier (Kigali, Rwanda) set up the game-tying goal in the 37th minute when, off a corner kick, he sent a pass into the box that graduate student Rayane Boukemia (Strasbourg, France) was able to head into the back of the net.
The Penmen were able to score the eventual game winner off another set piece with 4:13 left to play. Graduate student Sofiane Tergou (Bitche, France) took a corner kick and sent a pass to senior Jonathan Lupinelli (Mont de Marsan, France). Lupinelli then chipped a ball into the penalty area that sophomore Enzo Giuliani (Toulouse, France) headed home for his third goal of the year.
Southern New Hampshire carried much of the play in the second half, outshooting Adelphi 11-6 and holding a 5-1 edge in corner kicks through the final 45 minutes of play as neither team was able to build upon its first half score. Senior Nick Zucco (Ludlow, Mass.) improved to 10-0 in goal for the Penmen after making six saves, which included a stop on the Panthers' Christain Lird in the 83rd minute to preserve the 3-2 victory.
