Second-ranked Southern New Hampshire University improved to 13-0 with a convincing 4-0 blanking of NE-10 foe St. Michael's College on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior back Michael Rowley (Cooperstown, N.Y.) scored a pair of first-half goals to buoy the Penmen offense. His first tally came at 34:44 when Jaytoe Teh (Springfield, Mass.) sent a right-side cross deep to Rowley, who booted the one-touch pass inside the left post. The second goal came at 44:16, just seconds before halftime, as Rowley headed in a cross from Claude Diesse (Brossard, Quebec) to give the Penmen a 2-0 lead at the break. SNHU held a 12-3 shot advantage as well as a 7-1 edge in corner kicks for the half.
SNHU would tack on a pair of tallies in the second half to secure the four-goal victory. The first of those goals came from graduate student Rayane Boukemia (Strasbourg, France) on a cross from Nate Horton (Stowe, Vt.) from the right side that Boukemia played down for the on-timer at 60:12. The game's final mark came at 79:25 as sophomore Tyler Bivona (Rome, N.Y.) knocked home the rebound of a Robert Brown (Brussels, Belgium) shot that the SMC goalkeeper could not contain after making the initial stop.
Saint Michael's senior Nicco Roque matched a season high with seven saves, including four first-half stops. SNHU senior Nick Zucco (Ludlow, Mass.) posted a three-save shutout, his seventh of the season.
Notes:
- Southern New Hampshire scored four goals for the second time in three games after not tallying more than three over the first 10 contests.
- The Penmen's four-goal margin was the largest margin of victory this season.
- For Rowley it was his first multi-goal game for the Penmen, he has four goals on the season.
- Southern New Hampshire remains one of two unbeaten and untied teams nationally, along with Pfeiffer University.
What's Next: The Penmen resume play on Saturday when they play host to Merrimack College for a 7 p.m. Breast Cancer Awareness kickoff against the second-place Warriors.
