Junior Laura O'Hanlon (Dedham, Mass.) earned All-East Region recognition on Sunday, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's cross country team competed at the 2015 NCAA Division II East Regional at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds.
O'Hanlon completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 21:59, which was good enough for seventh overall in a field of 186 student-athletes. She is the third Penmen in school history to be named United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region, joining senior Stacey Wojcik (Wrentham, Mass.) in 2014 and Emma Lundberg in 2010.
Freshman Gabby Richardson (Litchfield, N.H.) checked in at No. 2 for Southern New Hampshire, as she navigated the terrain in 23:59 before junior Felicia Dowling (Merrimack, N.H) posted a time of 25:30. Classmate Ashley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) was next across the finish line with a time of 25:56, and checking in just behind her was sophomore Kaitlin McCauley (Waltham, Mass.) in 26:11.
In the final race of her career, senior Abigail MacBeth (Cumberland, R.I.) traversed the course in 28:20. Junior Devanee Ebert (Reading, Mass.) rounded out the Penmen contingent with a completion time of 28:24, one spot behind MacBeth.
Notes:
- Southern New Hampshire finished No. 20 out of 28 competing institutions. Stonehill College captured the regional with a total score of 48, followed by Roberts Wesleyan University (128) and Saint Thomas Aquinas College (160).
- O'Hanlon turned in her fifth top-10 placement in six races, and was one spot away from qualifying for the NCAA National Championship.
