Box Score RINDGE, N.H. – Kyle McGinnity's (Northboro, Mass.) leadoff triple followed by an error in the top of the 10th inning lifted No. 22 Southern New Hampshire University to a 3-2 Northeast-10 baseball victory over No. 5 Franklin Pierce University Wednesday afternoon at Pappas Field. The Penmen have won seven straight and improved to 13-5 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10, while the Ravens are now 19-2 and 2-1 in the league.
McGinnity, who had entered the game in the top of the eighth as a pinch runner for designated hitter Lorenzo Papa (Stoneham, Mass.), led off the 10th by tripling down the left field line and scoring on a throwing error. The Penmen threatened to tack on more runs as the next batter, Ryan Gendron (Nashua, N.H.) was hit by a pitch, but the Ravens escaped further damage. David Gibson (Hanover, Mass.) came on in the 10th to pitch and recorded a 1-2-3 inning to record the save.
Franklin Pierce jumped out to a 2-0 lead, getting on the board in the first when Matt Walsh singled up the middle to plate John Razzino. Maxx Sheehan made it 2-0 in the third when he scored on a wild pitch after reaching on a one out walk.
Carson Helms (Farmington, Conn.) halved the lead in the top of the fourth when he homered to left field. The Penmen tied the game in the top of the seventh when an RBI single by Mike Montville (Portsmouth, N.H.) plated Helms.
Ben Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) earned the win in relief for the Penmen, working 1.2 innings and allowing one hit and no walks. Starter Cole Warren (Bedford, N.H.) worked the first six innings, allowing two hits and two runs while fanning six. Both teams had four hits, with Montville registering two hits for the Penmen.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it faces Saint Anselm College in a doubleheader at Pappas Field slated to start at 4:30 pm.
