Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Trailing 10-8 seven minutes into the second half, Southern New Hampshire University ran off eight straight goals to build a 16-10 lead en route to an 18-12 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory Saturday afternoon at Abdow Field. The Penmen, who snapped a four-game slide with the win, improve to 2-4 and 1-4 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets are now 3-7 and 0-6 in the league.
Senior Emily King (Florence, Mass.) led Southern New Hampshire with six goals, while Alexa Allen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished with four goals, two assists, seven draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kennedy Daziel (East Hampstead, N.H.) recorded three goals, while Lindsay Bucknam (Bow, N.H.) and Ellen Decker (Foxboro, Mass.) each had two goals and an assist. Casey Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) notched a goal and two assists.
American International was paced by Cheyenne Carden's five goals, while Kelly Reilly and Jessica Lawler notched two goals apiece.
SNHU trailed 8-7 at halftime and 10-8 7:19 into the second half following a Reilly goal. Daziel got the run going for the Penmen with a man-up goal at the 20:03 mark, and from there, the guests scored the next eight goals, with Duggan's goal with 7:59 remaining making it 16-10. King had three of her goals during the run, while Allen had two goals and an assist.
Three straight goals midway through the first half gave the Penmen a 6-3 lead with just under 12 minutes to go following a man-up goal by King. AIC scored four straight to take a 7-6 lead with 4:23 left on a Carrie Davis tally, before Decker tied the game 7-7 with 3:32 left. The Yellow Jackets struck with 35 seconds left in the frame, with Abigail Cavallo's goal making it 8-7 at the break.
Southern New Hampshire outshot AIC 44-25, with Penmen goalie Nicole Kennedy (Windham, Maine) making six saves, while Yellow Jacket counterpart Alexis Torosian made 17 stops. AIC was also harmed by 26 turnovers and was just 9-21 on clear attempts on the afternoon. Both teams collected 16 draw controls.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Thursday when it travels to Post University for a 3:00 non-league contest.
