Box Score 2 LANTANA, Fla. – No. 23 Southern New Hampshire University was edged 2-1 by Wilmington (Del.) University in non-conference baseball Thursday morning before blanking Felician College 6-0 Thursday afternoon. The Penmen now stand at 7-5 on the season.
Against Felician, the Penmen grabbed single runs in each of the first two innings. In the first, a Mike Montville (Portsmouth, N.H) groundout plated Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.). A Tyler Fortanascio (Oradell, N.J.) single in the second brought in Lorenzo Papa (Stoneham, Mass.). Southern New Hampshire made it 3-0 in the seventh when Fortanascio scored on a double by Goldstein.
SNHU put the game out of reach with three runs in the top of the sixth. Montville scored on a balk after working a one-out walk. Alejandro Diaz (Old Bridge, N.J.) scored on a passed ball, while Goldstein worked a bases-loaded walk to make it 6-0.
Freshman Rob Del Signore (Londonderry, N.H.) picked up his first collegiate win on the mound, striking out eight in five innings of work. Justin Valdespina (Garfield, N.J.) went three innings and allowed one hit while fanning six, before Ben Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) tossed a 1-2-3 ninth. Goldstein, Diaz and Fortanascio had two hits apiece.
In the opener, SNHU took a 1-0 lead in the first as Manny Cruz (Wolcott, Conn.) reached on a bunt single and eventually scored when Diaz reached on a fielding error. Wilmington plated a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to take a 2-1 lead and an eventual victory.
Cruz had two of SNHU's six hits in the opener. Cole Warren (Bedford, N.H.) took the loss on the hill, allowing four runs and two hits in seven innings while striking out five and walking three.
Southern New Hampshire is scheduled to wrap up its Florida swing Saturday when it faces LIU Post in a doubleheader.
