Women's Lacrosse Downs Dominican (N.Y.) in Lid-Lifter

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Emily King (Florence, Mass.) totaled five goals as Southern New Hampshire University topped Dominican (N.Y.) College 17-6 in non-conference women's lacrosse Thursday afternoon at Larkin Field.  The game marked the season opener for both schools.

Senior Lindsay Bucknam (Bow, N.H.) became the 15th player in program history to reach 100 career points on Thursday as she totaled three goals and an assist.  Bucknam had 99 career points entering the contest.

Sophomore Casey Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) also finished with three goals and an assist, while Alexa Allen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had two goals and a team-high four assists.  Freshman Kennedy Daziel (East Hampstead, N.H.) notched two goals and an assist.  Courtney Nivala (Westminster, Mass.) finished with a goal and an assist, while Ellen Decker (Foxborough, Mass.) added a goal.

Gina Sparaco led Dominican with three goals.

Allison Smithwick scored for the Chargers 19 seconds into the game, a lead that would stand until King tied the game at the 24:52 mark.  From there, the Penmen reeled off six consecutive goals to open a 6-1 lead at the 18:48 mark.  After Dominican made it 6-2 at the 18:16 mark, Southern New Hampshire scored five more times to build an 11-2 lead.  The hosts opened up a 14-4 lead at intermission and scored three of the five goals in the second half.

Sophomore goalie Nicole Kennedy (Windham, Maine) stopped nine of the 15 shots she faced in goal for Southern New Hampshire, while Dominican counterpart Brittany Kiernan also made nine saves.  The Penmen outshot the Chargers 31-27 and registered 19 of the game's 25 draw controls.

Southern New Hampshire is idle until Saturday, March 14 when it hosts Bentley University in a 2:00 contest at Larkin Field.
