Box Score 2 LANTANA, Fla. - No. 23 Southern New Hampshire University swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader from LIU Post by scores of 11-3 and 8-4 Saturday at the Santaluces Complex. The Penmen upped their record to 9-5, while the Pioneers are 0-3 on the season.
In the opener, the Penmen rapped out 16 hits and scored twice in the second and third innings to build a 4-1 lead. Alejandro Diaz (Old Bridge, N.J.) led the Penmen with four hits and two RBI, while Tyler Fortanascio (Oradell, N.J.). Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.) and Ryan Gendron (Nashua, N.H.) also drove in two runs apiece, with Gendron belting a solo home run in a four-run eighth inning.
Tim Viehoff (Derry, N.H.) earned his first win of the season, tossing six innings and allowing three hits and one run while fanning six and walking four.
In the nightcap, Southern New Hampshire again struck early, scoring once in the first and three times in the second to take a 4-1 lead. Manny Cruz (Wolcott, Conn.) delivered an RBI single in the first, while Mike Montville (Portsmouth, N.H.) had a two-run double in the second.
Montville finished 3-5 with three runs driven in, while Gendron also drove in a pair of runs. Bryan Toland (Wildwood, N.J.) finished with a pair of hits and an RBI as well.
David Gibson (Hanover, Mass.) improved to 2-0, going five innings and allowing five hits and three runs while notching six strikeouts. Four different Penmen relievers combined to allow one hit and one unearned run over the final four innings, while Sam Fuller (Barre, Vt.), Ivon Clough (Peterborough, N.H.), Jake Walkinshaw (Seymour, Conn.) and Ben Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) each working an inning.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action next Friday when it faces Felician College in the first of four games at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
