Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Megan Staudle's two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning was the only offense of the game as Stonehill College blanked No. 24 Southern New Hampshire University 2-0 in Northeast-10 softball Friday afternoon at Penmen Field. The Skyhawks upped their record to 14-10 and 8-4 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 21-6 and 10-3 in the league.
After the two teams traded shutout innings over the first five frames, Staudle broke the scoreless tie with one away in the top of the sixth. Emily Padilla singled to lead off the game, then following a strikeout, Staudle homered to left.
Both teams had five hits, with Stonehill's Megan Ruonavaara throwing the first 6.2 innings to earn the win. Sarah Ropiak recorded the final out to get the save. SNHU's Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) suffered her first loss of the season, striking out six without allowing a walk. She is now 13-1 on the season.
The same two teams meet Saturday in a noon doubleheader at Penmen Field. SNHU will hold Senior Day prior to Saturday's first game.
