Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – No. 24 Southern New Hampshire University swept a Northeast-10 baseball doubleheader from Assumption College by scores of 26-5 and 20-5 Saturday afternoon at Rocheleau Field. The Penmen, who have now won nine straight, improve to 23-7 and 9-2 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds are now 8-21 and 4-10 in the league.
In the opener, the Penmen scored in each of the first seven innings, scoring two in the first, one in the second, six in the third, three in the fourth, seven in the fifth, six in the sixth and one in the seventh. Southern New Hampshire banged out 23 hits.
Mike Montville (Portsmouth, N.H.) belted two home runs, including a fifth inning grand slam, and drove in seven runs in game one, going 3-5 with three walks. Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.) also homered and drove in three runs, while Carson Helms (Farmington, Conn.) and Lorenzo Papa (Stoneham, Mass.) also registered three RBI in the contest. Eight Penmen had multiple hits, with Goldstein, Helms, Hector Coscione (West Newton, Mass.) and Sean Webster (Boston, Mass.) also having three hits.
Mike Robert (Nashua, N.H.) improved to 2-1 on the mound, working the first five innings and allowing two hits and one run while striking out five.
In the nightcap, the Penmen led 5-3 after six innings before plating 11 runs in the seventh, sending 17 men to the plate and pounding out seven hits while taking advantage of four walks and a pair of hit batters. Helms had a two-run triple in the inning, while Alejandro Diaz (Old Bridge, N.J.) recorded a two-run double and Manny Cruz (Wolcott, Conn.) a two-run single.
Diaz homered and drove in four runs in the nightcap, while Tyler Fortanascio (Oradell, N.J.) also homered. Derek Bauer (Millis, Mass.) knocked in three runs, while Diaz and Ryan Gendron (Nashua, N.H.) each had three hits.
Montville drove in another run to bring his total to eight for the doubleheader. He has now hit in nine straight games, going 16-for-27 (.593) over that span. SNHU rapped out 20 hits in the nightcap.
Tim Viehoff (Derry, N.H.) struck out for in five innings and allowed three hits and two runs to earn the win, improving to 3-1.
Southern New Hampshire and Assumption complete their three-game series Sunday at Rocheleau Field.
