Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – Lorenzo Papa (Stoneham, Mass.) went 3-6 and drove in six runs as No. 24 Southern New Hampshire University completed a three-game sweep of Assumption College with a 14-2 win Sunday in Northeast-10 baseball at Rocheleau Field. The Penmen have now won 10 straight and improved to 24-7 and 10-2 in the NE-10 Northeast Division, while the Greyhounds are now 8-22 and 4-11 in the league.
Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a 2-1 lead after one inning, then scored three times in the third, two in the sixth, three in the seventh, three in the eighth and one in the ninth. The Penmen banged out 19 hits, with six of those going for extra bases.
Papa doubled twice, driving in two runs on a seventh-inning double, then clearing the bases with another double in the eighth. He also delivered an RBI single in the third. Alejandro Diaz (Old Bridge, N.J.) was 4-6 with two RBI, while Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.) had three hits. Mike Montville (Portsmouth, N.H.) went 2-for-5 and extended his hit streak to 10 games, while Carson Helms (Farmington, Conn.) and Derek Bauer (Millis, Mass.) also had two hits apiece.
Alex Person (Foxboro, Mass.), making his second start of the season, improved to 6-0 on the mound, going six innings and allowing five hits and two runs while striking out two and walking three. Jake Walkinshaw (Seymour, Conn.) tossed two scoreless innings, while Joe McCarthy (Nashua, N.H.) threw a 1-2-3 ninth.
Southern New Hampshire is slated to return to action Monday when it hosts Saint Anselm College in a 3:00 Northeast-10 contest.
