Box Score COLCHESTER, Vt. – Manny Cruz (Wolcott, Conn.) went 2-4 with four runs batted in as No. 20 Southern New Hampshire University pounded out 14 hits in a 13-1 Northeast-10 baseball victory at Saint Michael's College Thursday afternoon. The Penmen upped their record to 26-8 and 12-3 in the Northeast-10 Northeast Division, while the Purple Knights are now 10-24 and 4-16.
Cruz had an RBI single in a five-run fifth inning for Southern New Hampshire, then delivered a two-run single in the fifth. In the sixth Cruz lifted a sac fly to center that plated Kyle McGinnity (Northboro, Mass.).
Alejandro Diaz (Old Bridge, N.J.) went 2-3 with three RBI while Lorenzo Papa (Stoneham, Mass.) went 3-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored, as he and Ryan Gendron (Nashua, N.H.) led off a four-run fourth with back-to-back home runs. Cam Oliveira (Tewksbury, Mass.) also had a pair of hits, while Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.) extended his hit streak to nine games with an eighth inning single.
Tim Viehoff (Derry, N.H.) improved to 4-1, striking out 11 in six innings and allowing two hits before Lucas Olen (Bedford, N.H.), Rob Del Signore (Londonderry, N.H.) and Ian Searles (Wareham, Mass.) each tossed an inning of hitless relief.
Southern New Hampshire hosts Merrimack College for a noon doubleheader Saturday. Before the first game, the Penmen will honor their senior class on Senior Day.
