Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MANCHESTER, N.H. – No. 20 Southern New Hampshire University took both ends of a Northeast-10 baseball doubleheader from Merrimack College by scores of 5-0 and 8-2 Saturday afternoon at Penmen Field.  With the wins, the Penmen improve to 28-8 and 14-3 in the NE-10, while the Warriors are now 14-16 and 6-11 in the league.

The opener was a 1-0 game until the eighth, when the Penmen scored four times.  With the bases loaded, Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.) tripled to left center to make it a 4-0 game.  Manny Cruz (Wolcott, Conn.) then singled to plate Goldstein.

SNHU had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Derek Bauer (Millis, Mass.) scored on a double steal with Lorenzo Papa (Stoneham, Mass.).

Mike Robert (Nashua, N.H.) went the first eight innings and allowed five hits while striking out nine and walking no one to improve to 3-1 on the season.  Goldstein, Cruz, Bauer and Carson Helms (Farmington, Conn.) each had two hits as the Penmen outhit Merrimack 11-6.

In the nightcap, Southern New Hampshire again broke open a close game late, scoring four times in the eighth to make a 4-2 game 8-2.  Bauer scored the first run when he scored on an error on a ball hit by Papa, while a bases-loaded triple by Bryan Toland (Wildwood, N.J.) with two away made it 8-2.

SNHU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first when Cruz scored on a throwing error after moving to third on a Bauer single.  A two-run double by Alejandro Diaz (Old Bridge, N.J.) followed by a Bauer sac fly in the third made it 4-0.  Merrimack got two runs back in the fourth to make it 4-2.

Sophomore Alex Person (Foxboro, Mass.) improved to 7-0 on the mound, scattering nine hits and allowing two unearned runs in eight innings while striking out six and walking one.  Cruz, Helms and Toland each had two hits in the nightcap while Goldstein went 0-5 to see his hit streak snapped at 10 games.

Southern New Hampshire is in action twice Sunday, hosting Bentley University at noon at Penmen Field, before traveling downtown to complete the three-game series with Merrimack at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium at approximately 5:00 after tomorrow afternoon's New Hampshire Fisher Cats game.
