No. 18 Baseball Wins 30th, Doubles Up Stonehill

Box Score

EASTON, Mass. – A four-run fourth inning highlighted 18th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University's 6-3 Northeast-10 baseball victory over Stonehill College Friday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.  The Penmen upped their record to 30-9 and clinched at least second place in the NE-10 Northeast Division with a 16-4 mark, while the Skyhawks are now 28-11-1 and 15-7 in the league.

Southern New Hampshire loaded the bases in the top of the fourth.  Derek Bauer (Millis, Mass.) reached on an error, followed by a Ryan Gendron (Nashua, N.H.) walk.  Lorenzo Papa (Stoneham, Mass.) loaded the bases when he reached on catcher's interference, with all three scoring on a triple pulled down the right field line by Kyle McGinnity (Northborough, Mass.).  McGinnity also scored on the play on an error on the relay throw.

SNHU staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when a single by Alejandro Diaz (Old Bridge, N.J.) plated Carson Helms (Farmington, Conn.).  Helms had reached on a two-out single.  Stonehill tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run by Brian Campbell, then scored twice in the third to take a 3-1 lead.  Southern New Hampshire closed the scoring in the eighth when a Cam Oliveira (Tewksbury, Mass.) sac fly plated Bauer.

Helms, Gendron and Papa led SNHU with two hits apiece as the Penmen outhit the Skyhawks 10-7, while Diaz extended his hit streak to 12 games.  SNHU starter Mike Robert (Nashua, N.H.) went the first seven innings and allowed six hits and three runs while striking out six and walking two to improve to 4-1.  Jake Walkinshaw (Seymour, Conn.) worked the final two innings and struck out three for his second save of the season.

SNHU closes out the regular season with a doubleheader at Stonehill Saturday starting at noon.
