The Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team opened play at the ITA East Regional hosted by University of the Sciences on Saturday.
Senior Ashley Loft (Leysin, Switzerland) moved into the second round of the A singles draw after downing Anne Strating of Queens (N.Y.) College 6-0, 6-1. She will face Laure-Anne Josso of Chestnut Hill in the second round.
In the A doubles bracket, Loft and Nour Kaddour (Paris, France) have reached the quarterfinals. The pair upended Kirsti Toegemann and Nicole Downey of Stonehill College 9-7 in the first round, then downed Linda Eliasson and Stefanie Canals-Baker of Concordia (N.Y.) College 8-2. Loft and Kaddour will meet Andrea Samson and Sumeera Kamil of Queens in the quarters.
Lindsay Baum (North Salem, N.Y.), Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.), Lauren Makenchie (Hampton, N.H.), Kaitlin Poje (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) and Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) were all victorious in the first round of the B singles draw. Baum topped Julia Bellon of Chestnut Hill 8-3, while Green was an 8-0 winner over Christie Catterson of Molloy. Makenchie was a 9-7 winner over Emily Rosen of Molloy. Poje was victorious over Mana Seifaei of Merrimack College 8-4, while Wagner won 8-4 over Natasha Siku of Queens.
Green and Poje advanced to the quarterfinals of the B doubles draw, where they will face Allison Jones and Olivia Kodsy of Le Moyne College on Sunday. The duo topped Catterson and Rosen of Molloy 8-2 in the first round and Tamara Klimek and Emily Slater of Caldwell University 8-4 in the second round. Wagner and Baum won their first-round match against Caldwell's Rebecca Ryan and Sara Riccardi 8-3, but fell to Seifaei and Lauren Perrson of Merrimack in the second round.
