Freshman Kristin Wilder (Framingham, Mass.) tallied seven points and junior goalkeeper Nicole Kennedy (Windham, Maine) racked up a career-high 21 saves to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team to Saturday afternoon's 14-10 triumph against Pace University at Pace Stadium.
Wilder scored six goals and dished an assist, while junior Casey Duggan (Framingham, Mass.), freshman Marisa McLaughlin (New Milford, Conn.) and senior Alexa Allen (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) all recorded three points each. Duggan potted a trio of goals, McLaughin scored once and handed out two assists and Allen dished three helpers.
McLaughlin set up Wilder just 2:03 into the contest to kick off the scoring, while Duggan doubled the lead 1:19 later. Wilder scored again off a pass from Allen and McLaughlin added a goal of her own to stake Southern New Hampshire to a 4-0 lead just over 10 minutes into the game.
Pace grabbed two back over the following three-plus minutes, but Wilder would score four times – two pairs sandwiched around a strike from sophomore Alexa Bedell (Londonderry, N.H.) – to give the Penmen a commanding 9-2 lead with 9:30 remaining in the opening half. The teams would alternate goals the rest of the frame as SNHU brought an 11-4 advantage into the break.
Freshman Mary Beth Sweeney (Foxborough, Mass.) would kick off the second-half scoring just 26 seconds in, but Pace would score four of the next five goals to trim its deficit to 13-8 with 8:23 to go. Junior Ellen Decker (Foxborough, Mass.) would stop the bleeding with a free-position tally at the 6:36 mark, but the Setters would find the back of the net two more times to make things interesting at 14-10 with 3:15 on the clock.
Pace would get off two more shots on goal, but Kennedy was up to the task both times.
