Women's Lacrosse Takes Charge Out of Dominican (N.Y.) With 21-1 Romp

Junior Ellen Decker (Foxborough, Mass.) turned in a career day to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team to a 21-1 triumph against Dominican (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.

Decker set career highs in goals (5), assists (2) and points (7) to lead the Penmen, while freshman Kristin Wilder (Framingham, Mass.) also potted five goals and classmate Marisa McLaughlin (New Milford, Conn.) matched those five points with four goals and an assist. Sophomore Alexa Bedell (Londonderry, N.H.) tallied three goals and an assist, with senior Alexa Allen (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) contributing a goal and three assists.

Southern New Hampshire would open the scoring just 1:40 into the game and tallied the contest's first nine goals in the opening 12:56. McLaughlin scored the first two for the Penmen, while Wilder potted three during the stretch and Decker added two. Allen did all of her damage during that period of the game, with Bedell kicking in a goal and an assist.

Leanne Lavelle stopped the bleeding for Dominican with 13:55 remaining in the stanza, but McLaughlin and Decker would strike to send the Penmen into the break with an 11-1 advantage.

SNHU would then shut out the Chargers, 10-0, in the second half, with Wilder starting the scoring just 15 seconds in, before adding another just 1:16 later. Decker posted two goals and a pair of helpers in the second half, with Bedell and junior Courtney Nivala (Westminster, Mass.) scoring twice, as well.

Freshman Mary Beth Sweeney (Foxborough, Mass.), who collected an assist in the first half, added a goal and an assist in the second, as did McLaughlin.

Notes:
-Junior goalkeeper Nicole Kennedy (Windham, Maine), the reigning Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week, only needed to make four saves over the opening 50:12 of the game. Freshman Leah Olansky (Bennington, Vt.) did not face a shot over the final 9:48. Brittany Kiernan stopped 21 shots for the Chargers.
-Eleven different Penmen contributed a point, including seven that produced multiple-point efforts.
-Southern New Hampshire outshot Dominican, 47-6, including 28-5 in the first half, and owned a 21-3 advantage in draw controls.

Up Next:
The Penmen are back in action Tuesday, March 8 (6 p.m.) when they travel to take on two-time defending NCAA National Champion and three-time defending Northeast-10 Champion Adelphi University. The next home game for the Penmen is Saturday, March 12 (1 p.m.) when they play host to Saint Michael's College at Larkin.
