Juniors Casey Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) and Ellen Decker (Foxborough, Mass.), along with sophomore Alexa Bedell (Londonderry, N.H.), all registered six points Saturday to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team to a 17-16 come-from-behind victory against Southern Connecticut State University on Senior Day in the regular-season finale at Penmen Field.
Duggan matched her career highs in goals (5) and points, while Bedell scored four goals and handed out a pair of assists and Decker added three goals and three helpers. Freshman Kristin Wilder (Framingham, Mass.) also recorded multiple points with a trio of goals.
After Southern Connecticut moved out to a 1-0 lead five minutes into the contest, Wilder scored consecutive goals just 1:05 apart to give the Penmen their first lead at 22:16. Following an equalizer from the Owls, Wilder put SNHU back in front and set off a three-goal run that opened a 5-2 advantage with 16:10 remaining in the opening half.
Southern Connecticut responded by scoring seven of the final 10 goals of the first stanza to bring a 9-8 lead into the break.
The teams alternated goals to open the second-half scoring before Carolynn Keal answered a Decker strike with back-to-back tallies that opened up Southern Connecticut's largest lead of the afternoon at 14-11 with 20:51 to play.
Southern New Hampshire hit back in a big way as three goals from Duggan and a pair from Bedell made up a 5-0 run that put the Penmen back in the driver's seat at 16-14 with 7:03 left. Nicole Healey would pull Southern Connecticut within a single goal just 1:04 later, but Duggan answered to re-install the two-goal cushion at the 4:08 mark.
Healey would again slice the deficit in half with one second remaining on the clock as the Owls fell just short.
