Juniors Sahara Brown (Center Barnstead, N.H.) and Laura O'Hanlon (Dedham, Mass.) each posted top-10 finishes in their respective events at the 2016 New England Outdoor Championship at Jess Dow Field on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University. Brown finished No. 10 in the women's javelin throw, while O'Hanlon was 10th in the women's 5000-meter run.
Brown, who captured the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference javelin throw a week ago, fired the javelin 38.74 meters to finish second among Division II competitors. She was behind Assumption College's Megan Perrin (47.99 meters) in the Division II ranks, and of the nine competitors to check in ahead of her, six were Division I student-athletes. Northeastern University's Nicole Genard finished atop the group with a throw of 48.64 meters.
O'Hanlon traversed the track in a time of 17:40.70 and was the top Division II runner in the event, which featured 30 student-athletes from Divisions I, II and III. Northeastern's Brooke Wojeski captured the top overall spot in 17:06.38 and her teammate, Lucy Young, was second in 17:10.62.
Notes:
- Northeastern leads the women's team rankings with a combined score of 47.50. Sacred Heart University is second after day one with 24 points, followed by the University of New Haven (17.50), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (17) and Assumption College (16) to round out the top-five.
