The Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team dropped just one game in singles play as it surged past the College of Saint Rose, 9-0, Saturday.
Graduate student Abla Chadli (Rabat, Morocco) defeated Averie Bowen, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while sophomores Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain), Kaitlyn Poje (E. Stroudsburg, Pa.) and Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) were all 6-0, 6-0 winners at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles, respectively. Sala beat Emily Farrell, Poje turned back KerriAnn Mahoney and Wagner toppled Alanna Bergmann.
Junior Lindsay Baum (N. Salem, N.Y.) recorded an 8-0 No. 5 singles win against Wendella Wilson and junior Sophea Sindorf (Moultonborough, N.H.) was also an 8-0 pro set winner at No. 6 singles over Patience Cournoo.
The Penmen began the day by sweeping doubles from the Golden Knights. Poje and fellow sophomore Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) doubled up Farrell and Mahoney, while Wagner and Baum defeated Bowen and Bergmann, 8-2. Chadli and freshman Abbey Killiam (Rowley, Mass.) began the streak of shutouts by capping doubles play with an 8-0 victory against Cournoo and Wilson.
Notes:
-Baum has now won 15 straight Northeast-10 singles matches and 16 of her last 17, dating back to last season.
-Baum and Wagner improve to a perfect 6-0 in doubles play this season, while Chadli is 6-0 at No. 1 singles this year.
