Junior Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) won a pair of matches, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was topped by Le Moyne College, 6-3, Saturday at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
Playing shorthanded for the third straight match, this time without its No. 4 singles player, freshman Casey Burns (Westbrook, Conn.), and No. 5 player, junior Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.), Southern New Hampshire was again forced to re-shuffle its lineup. Morais and fellow junior Kaitlyn Poje (E. Stroudsburg, Pa.) were able to post an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Marta Nunez and Camila Humala, but Le Moyne would bring a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Morais would again win at No. 2 singles, beating Tiffany Hamdan, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8), with fellow junior Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) also coming away victorious at No. 1 singles against Rithika Vajjiravelu, 6-1, 2-6, 10-6. After that, however, the Penmen only won a combined three games at Nos. 3-6, as Le Moyne was able to pick up the victory.
