Women's Tennis Snaps Skid with 8-1 Victory at Saint Rose

Playing its fourth straight match without its complete lineup, the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team snapped its first three-match conference losing streak in more than three years with an 8-1 thumping of the College of Saint Rose on Sunday at the Tri-City Fitness Tennis Courts.

Juniors Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) and Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) posted an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles against Averie Bowen and KeriAnn Mahoney, while junior Kaitlyn Poje (E. Stroudsburg, Pa.) and senior Lindsay Baum (No. Salem, N.Y.) combined to blank Lindsey Skouras and Wendella Wilson, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. The Penmen would bring a 3-0 advantage into singles play as sophomores Catherine LaChance (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Abbey Killiam (Rowley, Mass.) picked up a win by default at No. 3.

Sala defeated Bowen, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while Morais, Poje and Baum all posted 6-0, 6-0 triumphs against Mahoney at No. 2, Wilson at No. 3 and Skouras at No. 4, respectively. The Penmen also notched another default win at No. 6 for Killiam.

Saint Rose would record its only point at No. 5 singles.

Notes:
- The victory vanquished Southern New Hampshire's first three-match conference losing streak since March 2-April 3, 2014.

The Penmen return to action Saturday, Oct. 14 (11 a.m.) when they play host to Saint Michael's College at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
