Graduate student Abla Chadli (Rabat, Morocco), sophomore Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) and junior Lindsay Baum (N. Salem, N.Y.) each won their two matches as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team kicked off the spring portion of its schedule with an 8-1 win against Emerson College on Saturday night at the YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown.
Chadli and Sala combined on an 8-0 No. 2 doubles win against Rachel Scalera and Alex Weingarten, while Baum also was victorious at No. 3 doubles by the same 8-0 score, teaming with freshman Catherine LaChance (Wilbraham, Mass.) to take down Emily Hagopian and Jolin Cheng. Sophomores Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) and Kaitlyn Poje (E. Stroudsburg, Pa.) helped the Penmen sweep doubles as they recorded an 8-2 win at No. 1 against Alisha Parikh and Sabrina Jacobs.
Chadli made easy work of Jacobs at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Sala triumphed over Scalera, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 and Baum was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 4 against Weingarten.
Junior Jacqueline Youngdahl (N. Providence, R.I.) doubled up Hagopian, 8-4, at No. 5 singles, with freshman Abbey Killiam (Rowley, Mass.) doing the same to Cheng at No. 6.
Notes:
-SNHU has captured eight of its last nine dating back to the fall.
-Chadli improves to 12-2 at No. 1 singles this season.
-SNHU is ranked sixth in the Oracle/ITA East Regional Rankings.
