Score: Southern New Hampshire University 8, Nova Southeastern University 6 (12 inn.)

Junior Kyle Pangallo (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had quite the homecoming as he went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI to help the ninth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team cap its Florida trip with an 8-6 victory in 12 innings against Nova Southeastern University on Wednesday night at the NSU Baseball Complex.
Deadlocked at 6-6 in the 12th inning, Southern New Hampshire had runners at first and second with two outs following a leadoff single by junior Caleb Potter (Mentor, Ohio) and a walk from sophomore Joshua Zbierski (Stafford Springs, Conn.). Sophomore Robert Fulkerson (Anaheim, Calif.) then entered as a pinch hitter and hit a ball that resulted in a pair of errors, which allowed both Potter and Zbierski to score to make it 8-6.
In the bottom of the 12th, freshman Nick Artymowicz (Seaville, N.J.) – pitching his third inning in relief – retired the Sharks in order to seal the victory.
The Penmen jumped on the board first in the top of the second as Potter led off with a single to left, made it safely to second following an error by the shortstop and then scored on a fielder's choice. An RBI single from Michael Hernandez in the home half of the inning tied it, before Pangallo hammered his first home run in a SNHU uniform to put Southern New Hampshire back in front, 2-1, in the third.
Nova Southeastern leapfrogged in front in the bottom of the frame on RBI singles from Kevin Suarez and Andrew Liberty.
Southern New Hampshire went back ahead in the fourth as two-out singles from redshirt-junior Taylor Olmstead (Greenwich, Conn.) and junior Sean Webster (Boston, Mass.), followed by a walk to senior Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.), loaded the bases for Pangallo, who delivered a two-run single through the right side to put the Penmen up, 4-3.
The Sharks moved back in front with a three-run fifth inning as run-scoring singles from Suarez and Hernandez, along with a bases loaded walk to Sebastian Diaz, gave NSU some insurance at 6-4.
The Penmen kept battling, however, and leveled the score in the sixth inning. After Webster was hit by a pitch to begin the frame and moved to second on Goldstein's walk, he came around to score when Pangallo ripped a single through the left side. Redshirt-junior Ryan Sullivan (Hopkinton, Mass.) then tied it as he singled to left on a ball he smashed off the third baseman's glove to plate Goldstein.
The two bullpens then matched each other zero-for-zero over the next five frames before the Penmen broke through in the 12th.
Artymowicz (2-1) picked up the win with three perfect innings, striking out five batters. Junior Rob Del Signore (Londonderry, N.H.) started and allowed one run on three hits, while striking out four and walking one, in two innings of work. Freshman Ryan Steffens (Commack, N.Y.) was charged with a pair of runs in one inning, giving up two hits and two walks to go along with a strike out. Freshman Alex Gomes (Peabody, Mass.) tossed a scoreless frame, striking out a batter and allowing a hit. Redshirt-junior Jake Stearns (Plymouth, Mass.) relinquished three runs on two hits and a pair of walks in just a third of an inning. Redshirt-freshman Brendan Welch (Easton, Mass.) struck out two and walked one, while allowing three hits, in two-and-two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball. Junior Mitchell Powers (Portland, Maine) fired two perfect innings, striking out a pair of Sharks.
Potter joined Pangallo in the three-hit club as he went 3-for-6 with a pair of runs scored. Sullivan finished 2-for-6 with an RBI.
Notes:
- Since losing back-to-back games for the first time in nearly two years, SNHU has won seven-in-a-row and finished its Florida trip a perfect 5-0.
- Artymowicz has factored into the decision in each of the first five appearances of his career as he is 2-1 with a pair of saves through the first 14 games of the season.
