Senior Derek Bauer (Millis, Mass.) went 5-for-10 with three extra-base hits as the fifth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team kept rolling with two more wins against Assumption College on Saturday at Rocheleau Field. SNHU used a huge seventh inning to post a 12-6 win in game one before escaping with a 5-4 victory in the second game.

Bauer racked up three doubles, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Junior Caleb Potter (Mentor, Ohio) was 3-for-9 with three RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore Kyle Ruth (Albany, N.Y.) was also 3-for-9 with two RBI and three runs.

Southern New Hampshire fell behind, 1-0, in the bottom of the first of game one as three straight one-out singles against senior starter Alex Person (Foxboro, Mass.), including an RBI knock from Jake Byrne, brought in the game's first run.

SNHU answered back with a pair in the top of the second as singles from Potter and redshirt-sophomore John Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.), followed by stolen bases from each of them, put a pair in scoring position. Potter came home after a wild pitch on a swinging strikeout when the throw went to first to get the runner, while Stanton scored on a two-out single to left from junior Kyle Pangallo (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).

The Greyhounds tied it in the third on Trevor McQuade's two-out RBI double to right, but would not take the lead as a perfect Stanton-to-Pangallo-to-Oliveira relay was able to cut down Andrew Jaehnig trying to score all the way from first.

Assumption would take the 3-2 lead in the fourth, however, when after two quick outs, back-to-back base hits, followed by an RBI single to center from Jared Brescia, brought in the go-ahead run.

SNHU leapfrogged in front, 4-3, in the fifth when singles from Ruth and graduate student Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.) put two in scoring position for freshman Tom Blandini (Bow, N.H.), who came through with a two-run single to right-center.

Assumption went back ahead and knocked Person from the game in the fifth when Byrne smacked a two-run homer to left that made it 5-4. Redshirt-freshman Brendan Welch (Easton, Mass.) came on and silenced the Greyhounds, keeping them off the board and allowing the Penmen offense to go to work.

It would finally do just that in the seventh, erupting for eight runs to take a commanding lead. Goldstein started the rally with a leadoff single to left before a Blandini walk and infield single from Bauer loaded the bases with no one out. Following a strikeout, Potter ripped a bases-clearing triple to center to give SNHU a 7-5 advantage. The Penmen were not done, however, as Stanton plated Potter with the inning's fourth run. After Assumption recorded the second out, a base knock by senior Cam Oliveira (Tewksbury, Mass.) and walk to Pangallo set the stage for Ruth, who stroked a two-run triple to left-center that made it 10-5. Goldstein followed with the inning's third triple to bring home Ruth before Blandini doubled to right-center to plate Goldstein and make it 12-5.

Assumption scraped one back in the ninth on an RBI single from McQuade.

Person relinquished five runs on nine hits, while striking out five and walking just one, in four-plus innings. Welch (3-1) tossed three scoreless frames, allowing just one hit and striking out a batter. Freshman Ryan Steffens (Commack, N.Y.) was charged with one run on three hits, while striking out a pair, in two innings of work.

Potter (three RBI, two runs) and Goldstein (RBI, three runs) were each 3-for-5, while Stanton (run, RBI), Ruth (two RBI, two runs), Blandini (walk, three RBI, run) and Bauer (run) were all 2-for-5. Pangallo (walk, RBI, run) and Oliveira (walk, run) both finished 1-for-4.

Assumption again struck first in game one as McQuade's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the first staked the Greyhounds to a 1-0 lead against redshirt-junior starter Andrew Lalonde (Bedford, N.H.).

The score stayed that way until the fifth when Lalonde received some support from his battery-mate, sophomore Joshua Zbierski (Stafford Springs, Conn.), who launched a solo shot to center to lead off the frame and tie the game. After singles from Pangallo and Ruth, Bauer belted a two-out, two-run double to right-center to give the Penmen a 3-1 lead.

Southern New Hampshire added to its lead in the seventh. After two quick outs, Bauer doubled to right before redshirt-junior Ryan Sullivan (Hopkinton, Mass.) hit a two-run bomb to left-center that stretched the lead to 5-1.

Brescia's two-out RBI single in the seventh put the second Assumption run on board before the Greyhounds made it a one-run game in the ninth. Kevin Quinlivan led off with a double to center, moved to third on Brescia's groundout to the right side and scored when Hunter Tralli reached on an error. Byrne then came through with an RBI double to right-center to trim the deficit to 5-4. After a walk put runners at first and second, Derek Adamson singled to left, but Ben Curry, who pinch ran for Byrne was thrown out at the plate by Potter to end the game.

Lalonde (4-1) allowed two runs on six hits, while fanning six and walking a pair, in six-and-two-thirds-innings. Freshman Nick Artymowicz (Seaville, N.J.) pitched the final two-and-two-thirds to pick up his fourth save of the season, giving up two runs – none earned – on five hits, with a strikeout and a walk.

Zbierski finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Bauer went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Sullivan (two RBI, run), Ruth (run) and Pangallo were all 1-for-4.

Notes:
- SNHU has now won 30 of its last 34, including 23 of 26, 20 of 22, 13 of 14 and nine straight.
- SNHU pounded out 16 hits in game one, which is tied for its second most in a game this season.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning of game one, Southern New Hampshire sent 12 men to the plate and scored eight runs on eight hits. They slugged an impressive 1.500 in the frame, as half of the eight hits went for extra bases, including the three triples.
- In his last six outings, which include four starts, Lalonde is 4-0 with a 1.59 ERA, having allowed eight runs – six earned – on 20 hits, while punching out 40 and walking 14 over 34 innings. He is holding opponents to a .171 batting average during that span.
- Sullivan's home run was his team-leading eighth and gave him a long ball in each of the last three days.
- Potter's outfield assist to end game two marked the second straight day he threw a runner out at the plate to end a game. He cut down a Saint Michael's College runner trying to score from third on a fly ball to left to wrap up a 6-2 win Friday night in the second game of a doubleheader.
