USTFCCA RELEASE

NEW ORLEANS – Senior Sahara Brown (Center Barnstead, N.H.), sophomore Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) and freshman Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's track and field team garnered NCAA Division II All-East Region recognition, as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) announced the All-Region honorees for the 2016-17 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field season.

The All-Region teams are comprised of the top-five individuals in each event, in addition to each of the member of the top-three relay teams, from each region.

Brown, Elder and Murphy received All-Region distinction after registering the top performance in the region in their respective events this season. Brown fired the javelin a distance of 44.76 meters (146 feet, 10 inches) at the Stonehill Skyhawk Invite on April 29, which was 1.16 meters (three feet, 10 inches) past the next-closest student-athlete. Elder generated the No. 1 discus throw in the East Region at the MIT Sean Collier Invite on April 22, as she hurled the disc 44.89 meters (147 feet, three inches). Murphy topped the Division II East Region in the triple jump when she captured the Northeast-10 Championship on May 5 with an official distance of 11.87 meters (38 feet, 11.5 inches).

The Southern New Hampshire University women's track and field team wrapped up the team portion of its schedule with a seventh-place finish at the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Brown qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the javelin, and will be competing at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
