When and Where: April 13, 2018 – Hooksett, N.H. (Penmen Field)
Score:
Southern New Hampshire University 13, Stonehill College 4
Records: SNHU 19-11 (7-4 NE10, 6-1 NE10 NE), Stonehill 11-14 (4-8 NE10, 3-4 NE10 NE)

Senior Kyle Pangallo (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) continued his hot hitting and graduate student Andrew Lalonde (Bedford, N.H.) struck out eight over six innings, as the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team posted a 13-4 victory against Stonehill College on Friday afternoon at Penmen Field.

The game was scoreless into the second inning when the wheels fell off for Stonehill, as Southern New Hampshire capitalized on a pair of errors to strike for seven runs, including five of the unanswered variety. After Redshirt junior John Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.) drew walks to lead off the inning and then moved up on a wild pitch, senior Caleb Potter (Mentor, Ohio) made it 1-0 with an RBI ground out to third. Pangallo then put together an 11-pitch at-bat, fouling off a total of seven pitchers, before lining a single to center to plate Mulcay and make it 2-0.

With the bases loaded two batters later, sophomore Tom Blandini (Bow, N.H.) hit a ball to third that should have been the second out of the inning on a force at home, but the catcher dropped the ball and everyone was safe. Graduate student Thomas Buonopane (Peabody, Mass.) followed by reaching on an error to plate a pair of runs and the Penmen had a 5-0 lead. An RBI single to left-center from redshirt senior Ryan Sullivan (Hopkinton, Mass.) and a run-scoring fielder's choice groundout to third from Stanton capped the scoring and put SNHU in front, 7-0.

Stonehill would get one back off Lalonde in the top of the fourth when Thomas Quinn came through with a two-out RBI single to center.

Southern New Hampshire would eventually respond with three more in the fifth to take a 10-1 advantage. After one quick out, redshirt junior Taylor Olmstead (Greenwich, Conn.) reached on an error on a hard-hit ball to third and scampered to third on Pangallo's base knock to right-center. Redshirt sophomore Joshua Goldstein (Haverhill, Mass.) then roped a double into the left-field corner to bring in a run and set up a pair in scoring position. Blandini would immediately follow by lacing a single through the right side to score two. Walks to Buonopane and Stanton would eventually load the bases with two outs, but the Skyhawks limited further damage with a big strikeout.

Quinn would answer the bell again for Stonehill in the sixth, singling to right-center to drive in a run, but Blandini's sacrifice fly to right in the bottom half would cancel it out and make it 11-2.

Stonehill would run into more trouble in the seventh with the bases loaded, as a walk to Pangallo and a pinch-hit RBI single to left for junior Kyle Ruth (Albany, N.Y.) brought in a pair that made it 13-2.

An RBI groundout for Quinn and a run-scoring infield single for John Orzechowski would put two more on the board for Stonehill against the SNHU bullpen in the eighth.

Pangallo (walk, two RBI, two runs) and Goldstein (RBI, two runs) were each 2-for-3, while Sullivan finished 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored. Blandini was 1-for-4 with three RBI and scored a run. Stanton was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, an RBI and a run, with Olmstead going 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored.

Lalonde (3-2) allowed two runs on seven hits while punching out eight and walking a pair over six innings. Redshirt freshmen Zachary Merchant (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Stephen Lemieux (Oxford, Mass.) each struck out a pair and gave up a hit in a shutout inning of work. Redshirt junior Cameron Scotia (Dudley, Mass.) relinquished two runs on three hits with a strikeout in one inning.
