NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE
MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University softball team was selected to finish second in the Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division for the 2019 season, as the league announced its annual Preseason Coaches' Poll on Tuesday.
The Penmen totaled 98 points and received three first-place votes to slot in behind reigning Northeast Division champion, Saint Anselm College. The Hawks garnered eleven first-place tallies and received 108 points, which was the highest of any team in either division. Merrimack College checked in behind Southern New Hampshire with 89 points and one first-place vote, and the Warriors were followed by Assumption College (70) and Bentley University (58) to round out the top-five.
In the Southwest Division, Adelphi University was chosen to finish in the top spot with 88 points and four first-place votes. Pace University was second with 83 points and seven first-place votes, while the University of New Haven (77) was third with three first-place votes. Le Moyne University, who grabbed the remaining first-place vote, was fourth. Southern Connecticut State University rounded out the top-five with 39 points.
Southern New Hampshire finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 38-14 and advanced to the NCAA Northeast Regionals. The Penmen return four All-Conference performers from a season ago, including senior Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) and sophomore Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.), who were second-team selections in 2018.
The Penmen open their 2019 campaign on Friday, February 15 when they take on Slippery Rock University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at 10 a.m. Southern New Hampshire opens its home slate with a doubleheader on Sunday, March 24 at 12 p.m. against Queens College (N.Y.)
