Score: Nova Southeastern University 18, Southern New Hampshire University 7
Records: NSU 15-6, SNHU 12-4

Redshirt-junior Joshua Goldstein (Haverhill, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored, but the ninth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team suffered an 18-7 defeat at the hands of No. 19 Nova Southeastern University on Wednesday evening at the NSU Baseball Complex.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A Faircloth RBI double to left gave Southern New Hampshire a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Nova Southeastern would responded with three runs in the home half against junior Brian Eddy (Worcester, Mass.), with Garrett Wolforth delivering the big blow with a two-run homer to left-center.
  • SNHU regained the lead in the second, with Goldstein's run-scoring single to center making it a one-run game, before Alexy's two-run double to run-center put the Penmen up, 4-3.
  • NSU took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the inning and then hung six in the third and five in the fifth to break open a 16-4 advantage.
  • An RBI single from Hernandez pushed across a run in the sixth, but the Sharks would score two more in the bottom of the frame to make it 18-5.
  • The Penmen capped the scoring in the seventh, as Goldstein sent would-be sacrifice fly to center, but the outfielder misplayed it and allowed a pair of runs to come home.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Freshman Alex Kennedy (Braintree, Mass.) went 1-for-4.
  • Graduate student John Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) was 1-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.
  • Eddy relinquished eight runs – six earned – on seven hits, while striking out two and not walking batter over two innings.
  • Redshirt-freshman Joshua Eastman (Marshfield, Mass.) worked two innings, allowing three runs – all unearned – on one hit, while fanning a pair and not issuing a walk.
  • Redshirt-sophomore Connor Crean (Southington, Conn.) gave up five runs on four hits and a pair of walks, striking out one, in one inning.
  • Senior Thomas Novick (Sudbury, Mass.) was charged with two runs on four hits, but did not walk a batter and punched out three in two frames.
  • Redshirt-sophomore Stephen Lemieux (Oxford, Mass.) allowed one hit in a scoreless inning of work.

NOTES

  • Southern New Hampshire, which had won 11 of its last 12 entering the day, saw its five-game winning streak snapped, while NSU runs its win streak to five.
  • SNHU's 14 hits are the second most in a game this season and the most on the Florida trip.
