Softball's Barone Named National Pitcher Of The Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky
.– Junior pitcher Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University softball team received another honor on Wednesday when she was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 17.  She had been named Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Barone went 4-0 with a 0.50 ERA in her four starts during the week, all complete games. She pitched a pair of three-hit shutouts over Caldwell and West Chester, and allowed just one earned run in her two starts over Molloy and Minnesota-Duluth as SNHU competed at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.  She had 31 strikeouts in 28 innings.  Barone started the first game each day on the road trip, compiling a 5-0 record.  For the season, she is 6-1 with a 1.44 ERA.  She has 54 strikeouts in 63 innings this season.
 
The Penmen, now ranked 19th in the nation in the latest NFCA Coaches Poll, finished the trip on a six-game win streak, and stands at 14-4 on the season.
 
SNHU is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 23 (12/2 p.m.) for a Northeast-10 doubleheader at American International College.  The first home games are tentatively set for Monday, March 25 (2/4 p.m.) with Post University at the SNHU Softball Field.
