Ashley Elder Collects Two More Wins, Penmen Place Fifth At Skyhawk Invite

RESULTS:

When and Where: April 27, 2019 – Easton, Mass. (W. B. Mason Stadium - Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational)
Result: Southern New Hampshire University – 5th/12 (60 points)

Senior Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) won two more events, including a new personal best in the discus, to lead SNHU Women's Track & Field to a fifth place finish Saturday at the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational.

Top Performers:

- Elder won the discus throw and shot put.  Her top discus attempt (47.39m) established a new personal best and a new SNHU program record.  Her winning mark in the shot put (14.80m) fell just short of her best (14.82m).  Elder also competed in the hammer throw, finishing fifth (47.55m).
- Junior Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) brought home a second place finish, running her 800m race in 2:17.25.  That's her top time this season.
- Senior Kylie Lorenzen (Holliston, Mass.) finished third on Saturday in the 400m race (59.81).  
- Lorenzen was also part of two relay teams which earned high finishes.  She ran the anchor leg in the 4x400.  A team of freshman Meghan Stroh (New Fairfield, Conn.), freshman Zeandrea Ward (Hartford, Conn.), sophomore Megan Decker (Durham, Conn.) and Lorenzen wound up third in 4:08.03.   Lorenzen also scored with Decker, senior Sydney Blais (Pascoag, R.I.) and Ward in the 4x100.  They finished fourth in that race in 49.76.
- The other relay team wound up third in the 4x800 - Couto, sophomore Maura Coakley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), freshman Grace Henson (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) ran 10:24.84.
- Freshman Tatyanna Beckford (Orange, N.J.) finished in sixth place in the javelin throw at 33.61m.
- Senior Mary Claffey (Burlington, Conn.) matched her personal best with an eighth place finish in the pole vault (2.95m).
- Junior Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) wound up eighth in a competitive 100m hurdles race at 15.51 seconds.

Notes:
- The Penmen finished in fifth place (60).  The top three spots were earned by Division 1 programs.  Rhode Island (151.50), Holy Cross (128.50) and Boston College (125) were the top finishing teams.  Stonehill wound up in fourth place (117.50).

What's Next:
Southern New Hampshire will host the Northeast-10 Championships on May 3-4 at Penmen Stadium.
