SNHU Wins Inaugural Penmen Spring Invite

RESULTS

When and Where: April 6, 2019 – Hooksett, N.H. (Penmen Stadium - Spring Invitational)
Result: Southern New Hampshire University – 1st/5 (186.0)

Southern New Hampshire's Women's Track & Field team enjoyed some home cooking on Saturday, cruising to victory at Penmen Stadium in the Inaugural Spring Invitational.  

Top Performers:
- Senior Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) won the shot put (13.89m), discus throw (43.77m) and hammer throw (48.57).  
- Sophomore Megan Decker (Durham, Conn.) ran personal bests in the 100m (12.55 in prelims) and 200m (26.01).  Decker won the 200m dash, and finished second to Franklin Pierce's CeCe Telfer in the 100m prelim and final.  
- Junior Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) won the 100m hurdles (15.24 in finals) and 400m hurdles (1:07.80).

The Penmen earned a first-place finish in the 4x100 relay, a team which included senior Sydney Blais (Pascoag, R.I.), senior Kylie Lorenzen (Holliston, Mass.), freshman Meghan Stroh (New Fairfield, Conn.) and Decker.  

SNHU also picked up wins on Saturday with freshman Meghan Stroh (New Fairfield, Conn.) taking the 400m dash (59.56), junior Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) winning the 800m (2:17.67) and sophomore Maura Coakley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) notching a win in the mile (5:19.67).   Freshman Grace Henson (Cumberland, R.I.) ran third in the mile (5:34.45).  

Junior Jill Dieterich (Commack, N.Y.) wound up second in the 5000m run in 19:40.82.   Junior Madison Brand (Valhalla, N.Y.) wound up second in the 3000m steeplechase.  Senior Mary Claffey (Burlington, Conn.) came in second in the pole vault (2.90m).

Also, freshman Tatyanna Beckford (Orange, N.J.) was second in the javelin throw (32.84m) and junior Jalisa Allen (Foxboro, Mass.) was third in the discus throw (34.12m).  Freshman Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was third in the 400m hurdles (1:08.89).

Notes:
- The Merrimack women placed second with 145 points, Franklin Pierce was third (123), followed by Plymouth State (70) and Colby-Sawyer College (41).
- The Merrimack men won with 206 points, ahead of Plymouth State (129), Franklin Pierce (100) and Colby-Sawyer (48).  
- Several members of the SNHU Men's Cross Country team took part in distance races, part of out of season competition.  Sophomores Michael Hewitson and Cedric Jocelyn won the 800 meter and mile races respectively on Saturday.

What's Next:
Southern New Hampshire will host the Penmen Relays next Saturday, April 13.  The meet will begin at 10:00 a.m.
