Grad student Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) won the shot put and senior Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) set a new program record in the 600m race on Saturday at the Mary Grinaker Invitational, hosted by Smith College.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Grad student Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) won the shot put with a throw of 14.56m (47' 9.25 "). She has won each of the three competitions she has participated in this season.
- Senior Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) finished second in the 600m in 1:39.87, although her time was the fastest in SNHU program history for the event.
- Sophomore Grace Henson (Cumberland, R.I.) also turned in a fast time in the 600m, finishing fourth in 1:44.07.
- Senior Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) wound up in second place in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.55 seconds after qualifying with a 9.54 race. She also finished 8th in the triple jump.
- Junior Maura Coakley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) sped to a 5:28.18 in the mile run, which was the third fastest time on the day.
- Sophomore Bennie Alula (Hartford, Conn.) continues to improve with a new personal best in the weight throw of 14.77m (48' 5.5"), finishing in fifth place.
- The Penmen also ran to a pair of runner-up finishes in relays.
- Sophomore Meghan Stroh (New Fairfield, Conn.), freshman Skyler Tautkus (Laconia, N.H.), junior Megan Decker (Durham, Conn.) and sophomore Zeandrea Ward (Hartford, Conn.) ran the 4x200m in 1:48.24.
- Stroh teamed up with Tautkus, Ward and Murphy to finish second in the 4x400 in 4:15.82.
WHAT'S NEXT
- Southern New Hampshire will return to action on Friday, January 24 at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University.
