Sophomore Kelsey Long (Woburn, Mass.) scored three goals, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team fell to 10th-ranked Mercy College, 12-6, in its season opener Friday afternoon at Penmen Stadium.

- Mercy jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the opening 11:35 behind a pair of goals from Brittani Sergio.
- SNHU had crept to within 7-3 when another four-goal outburst put the Mavericks in front, 11-3, just past the midway point of the second stanza.

- Sophomore Hayle Ashford (Atkinson, N.H.) made seven saves, while Mercy goalkeeper Madeline Garvalosa stopped 18 shots.
- Sophomore Catherine Derhak (Londonderry, N.H.) collected an assist.
- Southern New Hampshire outshot Mercy, 27-20, including 17-8 in the second half
- The Penmen also held a 12-8 advantage in draw controls.
- Mercy was an efficient 3-for-5 on its free-position opportunities, while SNHU was 3-for-9.
